Screencast-O-Matic is a screen recording and screenshotting software normally used among students and with other educational purposes. Screencast-O-Matic supports audio input and webcam usage to attach to the screen recordings. It allows users to edit screen recordings and screenshots with the use of the paint and highlight tool as well as the letter tool which allows users to invoke words without having to use a microphone. One of Screencast-O-Matic distinctive features is the ability to start up the application from their website. The application supports direct upload to YouTube within the app. It also accommodates file upload onto the user's desktop as well as video sharing through the use of a link.

Screencast-O-Matic is quite easy to use and it's also generally free, the downside is that a lot of the editing tools are hidden behind a paywall, so if you want to get the full experience of the application it is a requirement to pay a yearly fee. Functionality

To launch the application, you can either select the app on your desktop or go on your browser to the Screencast-O-Matic website and select the camera icon that is located at the top of the home screen after logging in. After that the application should start up, A checkered box will appear on your screen, and you will notice by clicking and holding the corners of the box you can adjust the size of it; this checkered box will be the area in which your screen will be recorded, and then press the record button and a timer will appear and it will begin recording, press it again to pause the recording and if you are done recording you can select the pause button and the done button.


With my use of Screencast-O-Matic I rarely encountered any issues when screen recording, but a minor issue that I faced will have to be the non-moveable interface on the screen, sometimes when I pause the recording the user interface would restrict my mouse from selecting some things behind it. The way I overcome this issue is by shrinking the recording frame or by unpausing the recording to select it.

Conclusion

Overall, the application performed very well and I used it a great amount in my recent blogs. I would recommend Screen-O-Matic for anyone who is thinking of doing any screencast, it is extremely easy to pick up, it's free and convenient especially if you're a student looking to submit an assignment or a project.


Microsoft Teams

Team is a messaging app for organizations and schools. It is a site where users can collaborate, communicate, put together meetings and share files and applications. Microsoft teams support video conferencing and audio conferencing and the application has a chat function.

Accessibility

The application is free and accessible to everyone; however, the application requires internet connection, to partake in video or audio conferencing it is important to either have a microphone or a camera or even both. All that is needed to set up teams is to sign up to the site using your outlook account.

Functionality

In the early stages of teams specifically in 2020 during the pandemic, Teams had some bugs here and then that you may encounter such as the microphone not working or audio quality problems or even the whole video conference call crashing, but despite that Microsoft managed to solve most of their problems rather quickly and now in the present day of teams I rarely encounter any of those problems anymore.


Conclusion

In my opinion I find Microsoft Teams to be exceptionally reliable when it comes to collaborative work and education and teaching, The software is good, the user interface is easy to navigate through and the overall performance is smooth. I would recommend Microsoft Teams to corporations and to educational institutes.
